I picked my first daffodil of the year on sunday. I saw some blooming in the neighbor’s yard and quickly went to check the ditchline on the edge of the property where most of our daffodils grow and there were several cheerful yellow beings waiting for me. Not enough sunshine out to make a flower essence yet, but i’ll be ready!
reposting from a blog entry on spacehey from back when i was living in northern california. Daffodils were my sign to spring back into life and into making natural remedies with the abundance of plants I had access to. Before that, back here in Virginia, daffodils have been a source of seasonal happiness since I was a kid, before I knew all about the magical and medicinal properties of this flower.
Daffodils are also known as Narcissus. a venusian and water ruled plant and the birth flower for pisces/march. They are harbingers of hope, fertility, abundance and love while also being a poisonous flower of the underworld suitable for funerary rites. They are lovely for 12th house/piscean related rituals and remedies. Daffodils contain galantamine – a compound extracted and known to slow the progression of Alzheimer's symptoms. Yellow flowers are said to be ones that aid with “intellectual matters and communication”.
Daffodils have been my favorite part of each day since they started blooming. they're sunshine incarnate. I've been talking to them, reading by them, adding them to spaces for a boost of creativity and happiness and making a flower essence with them. The main effects of this essence seem to be as expected, a sense of peace and heightened self love especially towards the inner child, increased creativity and sensitivity to spiritual realms.
there are a lot of sites that explain the essence making process so i wont go into that, but I will share some of these notes from flower essences and vibrational healing by gurudas
"Daffodil extends the conscious mind's activity through the mental body, which it helps organize, to certain levels of the higher self. This is desirable because the higher self is actually a fine attunement of all subtle bodies and it is never out of harmony. The higher self is always attempting to align the subtle bodies into their proper frequencies. "
"This essence is applicable to transcendental forms of meditation and to hearing voices from one's guides or higher self. The conical shape of energy that can be observed appearing from the crown chakra feeding into the individual expresses this influence. The crown chakra organizes the conscious mind to receive information from the higher self. This is a splendid essence for daily meditative practices."
"Daffodil vitalizes the body. This does not mean physically rejuvenating the body; it is more a vitality that manifests from clarity of thought"
remember to use the indirect method when making an essence with any poisonous plant. you can ideally place your bowl of water next to the plant or patch of flowers you’re making an essence with, or arrange your blossom around the bowl of water while it sits in the sun. some seasoned practitioners use poisonous flower essences with the direct method too, which can be okay if your potion is properly diluted and used sparingly, but if you are a beginner just be safe! !
asking permission from the plant and thanking them for lending their energies for our medicine is important. belladonna essence knocked me on my ass the first time i tried it. just three drops topically. rememeber you’re working with powerful spirits!
from https://www.daughterofwands.com/blog/2021/6/11/on-the-nature-of-poison-for-healing “When we work with poisonous plants by way of flower essences we are giving ourselves permission to investigate more deeply buried material that we've been carrying around like dead weight.”

i leave you with an AI generated poem
Daffodils
Golden heads, swaying in the breeze
A sea of yellow, oh how it please
A herald of spring, a joy to behold
Daffodils, a sight to lift the soul
